"If you´re confused, listen to music!" is Jerry Garcia´s recommendation on the 1975 album "Blues for Allah" - and there has probably rarely been better advice. After a self-imposed break of almost 20 months, the Grateful Dead produced their new album in guitarist Bob Weir´s studio, which he had installed in his new house in California. Instead of recording album versions of songs that had matured on stage as usual, this time the band members developed the material together in the studio.
With Blues for Allah, the Dead reinvented themselves in 1975. After years of a certain aimlessness, an album was created as if from a single mold with clear jazz influences and a consistent musical line. Partly purely instrumental, partly supported by vocal parts from Jerry Garcia and Donna Godchaux, this was the rebirth of the Grateful Dead.
